Being able to practise breathing techniques are long known to help in labour. Creating a focus and also if practised enough, a pattern of breathing can become second nature to aid relaxation. If we look at the benefits of yoga or hypnobirthing, these breathing patterns rely on a technique called anchoring.
Anchoring involves entering a mind set where by doing an action your memory automatically commences a response, in hypnobirthing this can be a breathing pattern, this then relaxes you.
We are not looking specifically at hypnobirthing, but perhaps you could try to find local practitioners.
