Being a birth partner can be such a wonderful and rewarding experience whether you are the other parent, a friend or grandparent to be!
There are some things you can do that will help guide you through being a support in labour.
Over the next few pages, we can look at the ways in which you can support the birth mother at this time.
- Before we start, what do you feel your role is?
- What have other people told you about their role in birth?
- What have you seen in television programme’s or in films?
Sometimes we see or imagine people feeling sick or looking nervous or even getting hurt!
Sometimes people do not know what their role is or think that they may not have a role to play as birth is not happening to them.
These are all common thoughts about birth and there are lots of things you can do to be a good support.
